Checkpoint 4 - Presentation + Graphics

Presentation and Graphics

The main new content for this checkpoint is a second level. While designing the layout I think I've managed to discover what kind of visual style is possible with such simple elements.

More or less every part of this level - like the first level - is just rectangles rotated and resized.

In this level I've also introduced hazards that move back and forth for added difficulty:

If I have the time I plan to make the second level longer as currently it can be beaten faster than the first and I'd like each level to be longer than the previous.

Completion time is also displayed at the end and compared to your personal best time:

Feedback

Feedback to work on this week was minimal however there were a few clunky quirks in how the second level is designed that were pointed out to me and I believe I've fixed them. One example is this open area where the player can swing themselves up onto the higher of the three pathways. It is possible that the player will fall out of the grappling range of the ceiling while trying to gain the falling momentum to power their swing.

To fix this I've ensured the player never sees this as a potential option by extending the middle ledge into the swinging arc. I'm hoping now the player will be funneled into performing the swing as I intended by starting higher up
